Welcome to Interfaith Appalachia – a new program that brings people together across differences of faith, politics, and environmental perspective for service, dialogue and community development. IA creates intensive programs of 1-4 weeks, engaging college and high school students; we focus on exchange work between greater Boston and central Appalachia (mainly Harlan County, eastern Kentucky). Since fall 2010, about 60 students have assisted with various projects in the tri-cities area of Harlan County, KY. This coming July will be our first Boston-based high school program. Direct service projects include:

  • siding houses
  • preparing meals for local families
  • weatherizing homes for winter
  • developing community agriculture

We are currently finding new partner colleges, universities, and youth groups to work with, in order to expand our impact. To find out more about our programs, visit the Documents page of this website and download our information sheet and/or information packet.

I additionally believe that mesothelioma is a scarce form of cancers that is usually found in all those previously familiar with asbestos. Cancerous tissue form within the mesothelium, which is a defensive lining which covers the majority of the body’s organs. These cells typically form from the lining on the lungs, abdominal area, or the sac which actually encircles one’s heart. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
